- $980 million - A Pennsylvania man and his family were recently awarded compensation after a seatbelt defect led to the man's paralysis. The plaintiffs claimed that there was too much slack in the seatbelt, which allowed the man's head to hit the roof during an accident. The judge made several rulings that are now being appealed.

In this particular case, a Vietnamese manufacturer of a bunk bed system did not comply with the US standards. Despite being informed of this and a recall being requested, the manufacturer continued to sell the product online. The jury was able to hear all of this, which understandably angered them and influenced the final decision. This shows that consumer safety should always be a top priority.
- $745 million – September 8, 2023 - Missouri family, who sued after their daughter was killed by a driver who had abused nitrous oxide - In this case, teenagers discovered that by inhaling the nitrous oxide from the canisters, they could experience a slight buzz. Nitrous oxide was used in whipped cream canisters to preserve it and as a gas to help get the cream out of the canisters. WHIP IT began selling a large amount of their product to smoke shops in the US, and this jury found them liable to some degree for the consequences. When the jury was presented with the statistic that 70% of their product is being sold to smoke shops in the USA, it was reasonable for them to assume that WHIP IT may be aware that their products are being used for the purpose of getting high. The jury was not pleased with this and as a result, WHIP IT was ordered to pay $745 million.

Tobacco cases tend to produce large awards because juries hear the full history of the industry telling the public, from the 1950s up to around 1990, that smoking was neither addictive nor a cause of cancer. Massachusetts jurors are generally well educated and react strongly to that history.

The jurors believed that the airbag shouldn't have deployed and awarded $85 million to the young woman. The reconstruction showed that she had long fingernails, and when the airbag deployed, it knocked her hand into her face, injuring her eye. The jury again was convinced that the airbag shouldn't have deployed, and the $85 million award was unexpected.
